Tase me, bro, tase me !!

Perhaps this should be a question in all SIU investigations and related coroners inquests:

Could this death have been prevented through the use of a taser, rather than being plugged with 9mm of police love through the pipes.

The inquest heard that an intoxicated Mr. Steacy was sitting at a computer in his mother's darkened home in a trailer park near Smiths Falls when now-Sgt. Hollywood and Const. Mike Cholette attempted to arrest him at about 11:30 p.m.

Mr. Steacy, who had his back to the officers and had a phone in his left hand, started to turn around when they ordered him not to move.

According to testimony, he kept turning toward the officers when his right hand dropped to his waist with his fingers gripping what appeared to be a weapon.

After ordering him to drop what was in his hand, Sgt. Hollywood shot Mr. Steacy in the chest.

The officers later learned that Mr. Steacy was only holding a computer mouse.

RELATED: Brockville city police aren't tas..er ... I mean fazed by the controversy ...

"In 2007, the Taser,....was "deployed" eight times ..... Meanwhile, officers pointed the Taser without using it nine times last year and got suspects to settle down simply by drawing it another 13 times.

"Just the act of unholstering it is usually enough to get compliance," Manoll told the board.

Freaks abound:From the same article:

Brockville has 23 residents listed on the provincial registry of sex offenders, meaning they must report regularly to police. All 23 are listed as "compliant" with their respective conditions.

The numbers reflect the situation as of Jan. 8 of this year. People listed on the registry are living in the community. When they are listed as "non-compliant," the chief said, they have likely breached their conditions and face charges in connection with that.

In comparison, Smiths Falls has 20 people on the registry, one of whom is listed as non-compliant.

Mike,
What exactly does that mean?? Does it mean there there is an sfdci site linked to porn??? I don't understand. God have mercy on our crazy world.

And, I sure can't help but wonder what they are doing about our local NONcompliant sicko.
Where did you access that information.

I doubt it ... that's why they ended up here. But whomever it was was looking for a site that had something like this:
"Hi my name is ____ , I go to SFDCI, welcome to my new porn site"

The non-compliant offendor has likely went somewhere else, and not told the police (that's what I hope anyhow).

What struck me about the figures was Brockville, with 2x the population, has 23 registered offenders, Smiths Falls has 20. I've always heard SF was a mecca for these weirdos, I guess this goes to prove there is some truth to that.

FWIW, I don't think the problem is any worse now that it has ever been.

I got those #'s from the Brockville R&T article I linked to.

I honestly think that there is a unique darkness to this town. I love it, and hate to say it, but.. I just did.

I should edit the above comment to claify it's meaning. LOL!

I love this town, NOT the darkness within it!!

Sadly, I think the problem is more widespread than you or I can even comprehend. Everywhere.

The only question is when will our society treat it as the ultimate violation of a human being it is. Pretty sad when a diddler gets a sentence not a whole lot tougher than a drunk driver.

The dark side of SF (compared to other places)? That's a whole other post (someday) .... but I do I think the perception is WAY worse than reality.

I look forward to that "someday" post, and a chance to see your perspective on that. :-)

Mike,

Is there somewhere that I can download this video, rather than watch it on here? Gotta watch those overages,,,,,grrrrrrrr! (That way I could watch it more than once if I wanted to.) I heard him speak on Oprah once. It was amazing.

Yikes ... I didn't know Ripnet was still 5GB download limit ... Storm just went to 50GB .. from 15. If you didn't sign a 3 yr contract, Storm is (or has already) doing some build around here to make it accessible anywhere in the Township ... FYI .. we go through about 10GB a month .. so I'd be paying $35/mo in extra if I was on Ripnet. Ouch.

I DID already sign a contract. Not happy about it, but I did it.

What provider do you have right now?

Mike said...

I have Sympatico DSL at home, Storm at work.

well, I can tell you that I absolutely regret signing with Ripnet. I should have waited it out until another option was available in my area. Darn!
